Why are certain content items locked so that I cannot edit them?

Joomla automatically checks outs, and locks, content items when they are being edited. If another user has a content item opened for editing, it will be locked and you cannot edit it unless you first unlock it. Also, due to a bug, a content may remain locked if you open it for editing and then log off without first saving or closing the item. When you log in back, the content item will be locked.

How do I unlock a content item so I can edit it?

When I try to edit a content item (page, article, etc.) the page reloads and my content disappears, so I can't edit. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

By default, Joomla uses an online WYSIWYG editor that must load after the page has loaded, which can cause the page to reload. Normally this reload process to load the WYSIWYG editor is not an issue if you have a broadband internet connection. On slower connections, though, the WYSIWYG editor reloading time may take so long that the page seems blank.

To fix this, wait for the page to fully reload so the WYSIWYG editor has time to load, or disable the WYSIWYG and just use the normal text box to edit content.
